Jessica: Managing 25 Years of Chronic Back Pain with BackHug for Daily Mobility and Relief

At 50 years old, Jessica has been dealing with back pain for 25 years. After trying everything from physios to steroid injections, she discovered BackHug. We sat down with her to learn about her experience.

Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Jessica Colson. I'm 50 years old and I suffer from a bad back. And I have done really for the last 25 years.

What back issues do you currently suffer from?

I was diagnosed with the deterioration on my lower fourth and fifth vertebrae. And it's something that won't get better, so all I can do now really is manage the pain.

What have you tried to help ease your pain?

I've tried everything I have been to physios, I've had every massage under the sun, steroid injections. Last year I had a denervation. I have done a lot of stuff.

I spend most of my day doing things to help keep me mobile. So things like yoga, things like Tai Chi, things like pilates. I have an inversion table.

How did you find out about BackHug?

I found out about BackHug through a magazine where they did an independent review.

The very friendly team from Edinburgh got in touch with me. They do take time to talk to you about what your issues are to help you to decide as to whether the BackHug would be right for you. And then the next step is trying it in the comfort of your own home.

I fell in love with my BackHug and I couldn't be parted from it so now I have a BackHug subscription, thank you BackHug!

What makes BackHug different from the other methods you've tried?

BackHug helps by relaxing the muscles around your spine because a lot of pain comes from nerve tension and compression on your nerves, and the BackHug does a lot to relieve that.

The great thing about BackHug is that it uses gravity. So lying on your back with your knees in a tabletop position, the fingers in the BackHug mechanism can really get to work in the right areas.

How is it helping and does it fit in with your lifestyle?

BackHug has become part of my daily routine in helping me to stay mobile.

The amazing thing about the BackHug is that you can tailor the program to your own needs and if you feel a certain way one day, you can actually adjust the settings to be stronger or to be gentler. You can even adjust the strength on your left side or your right side, according to how you feel, even on the first time.

Sometimes there is a queue for the BackHug because my daughter loves going on it and so does my other half.

They have the BackHug App on their phone, or tablet, and they can use the BackHug independently from me.

So it's not a solution for just only the person who's suffering with back problems in the home, it's really nice to have for everyone.

My best friend went on it for just 10 minutes, and she is a nurse and she was amazed, she just laid there saying "It really knows where to press, doesn't it?"

I used to have a massage every month, I used to go to the acupuncture every month, the BackHug more than covers that, and especially with the pandemic, not being able to leave the home, not being able to have close proximity to practitioners.

I think because BackHug is so effective, you can feel the benefit, you know it's working in the right way and in the right place.

It's so compact, it really takes up so little space in your home, it takes up about as much space as a coffee table, and I tell you a coffee table can't do for you what the BackHug does [laughing]

What made you want to subscribe to BackHug?

The BackHug just brings a lot of pain relief solutions here into the home with you. It makes me feel secure knowing that I have those solutions available to me, 24/7.

I can't imagine being parted from my BackHug, no it's here to stay.

You can't put a price on feeling well. You can't.
